Want to understand how our teams work? Cool! Let’s dig in.
1-2 hours per week
Team Structure
- Each team will be composed of a Lead, (sometimes) a Co-Lead , Command Team Members, Task Specialists, and Apprentices.
- Team Leads interface with the Board to create and maintain the long term plan for their team in the bigger picture of The Autonomy Project. They are capable of completing all tasks the team is responsible for, and training others on them, sharing their responsibilities with a Co-Lead.
- Team Leads and Co-Lead report to the Admin Team, and the Board.
- Apprentices learn on the job, cultivating an understanding of team culture through helping with structured tasks. They pick a training track to start getting familiar with our systems, and gain exposure to other areas as they go, in case they want to change course.
- Apprentices report their Mentor, their Team Lead, and the Admin Team/Board.
- Team Specialists have completed an apprenticeship and assist with the recurring needs of their team. They monitor their Team’s Slack channel and the Side Quest Board and help with tasks when they are able (1 x per quarter minimum)
- Team Specialists report to their Team Lead, and the Admin Team/Board.
- Command Team Members are responsible for the daily management of their area and are primed to take over when Leads need to take breaks or are unavailable.
- Command Team Members report to their Team Lead and the Admin Team/Board.
- Team leads and co-leads are ideally a pair of “Get Shit Done” and “Ideas and Dreams” personality types.
- Teams may add additional coordinators as they see fit to help distribute workload and manage time commitments.

This team’s front end folks are the fabulous smiling faces at the event itself. From set up, to making sure the event goes off without a hitch (and problem solving when it doesn’t), all the way to ensuring a sparkling clean tear down, these are the people physically running our events.

Does that sound like you? Take a look at our most needed roles and see if one speaks to you! If none do, don’t worry, we still need your awesomeness on other teams!
Team Coordinators
- Team coordinators make up the bulk of the “behind the scenes” aspects of each area.
- Coordinators will help pick up individual tasks and areas, allowing leads to oversee planning and strategy on a higher level. Teams may have additional people inside those teams, including special teams for specific events or projects, but always report to the Team Leads.
- Coordinators may wear multiple hats as the teams come together, so it’s important that there is sufficient overlap in knowledge to pick up slack when team members aren’t available.
- We utilize Notion and Slack primarily for our communication and coordination, but no knowledge is necessary to learn these platforms.
