Teams & Responsibilities

Want to understand how our teams work? Cool! Let’s dig in.

Team Structure

  • Each team will be composed of a Lead, (sometimes) a Co-Lead , Command Team Members, Task Specialists, and Apprentices.
    • Team Leads interface with the Board to create and maintain the long term plan for their team in the bigger picture of The Autonomy Project. They are capable of completing all tasks the team is responsible for, and training others on them, sharing their responsibilities with a Co-Lead.
      • Team Leads and Co-Lead report to the Admin Team, and the Board.
    • Apprentices learn on the job, cultivating an understanding of team culture through helping with structured tasks. They pick a training track to start getting familiar with our systems, and gain exposure to other areas as they go, in case they want to change course.
      • Apprentices report their Mentor, their Team Lead, and the Admin Team/Board.
    • Team Specialists have completed an apprenticeship and assist with the recurring needs of their team. They monitor their Team’s Slack channel and the Side Quest Board and help with tasks when they are able (1 x per quarter minimum)
      • Team Specialists report to their Team Lead, and the Admin Team/Board.
    • Command Team Members are responsible for the daily management of their area and are primed to take over when Leads need to take breaks or are unavailable.
      • Command Team Members report to their Team Lead and the Admin Team/Board.
    • Team leads and co-leads are ideally a pair of “Get Shit Done” and “Ideas and Dreams” personality types.
  • Teams may add additional coordinators as they see fit to help distribute workload and manage time commitments.

What are our teams?

Advocacy and Outreach Team

This team is dedicated to advancing the rights and visibility of the communities served by the Autonomy Project. They work on policy advocacy, mutual aid programs, community outreach, and public education campaigns to address issues facing marginalized groups. The team collaborates with community leaders, policymakers, and other organizations to push for social change and ensure that the voices of the underrepresented are heard and acted upon.

Building Team

This team oversees the physical space of the Autonomy Project, including maintenance and management of rentals. Their work ensures that the facilities are not only well-maintained but also utilized to generate additional revenue through rentals, supporting the sustainability of the project.

Education Team

The Education Team develops and coordinates all educational programming, which includes workshops, seminars, and training sessions tailored to the needs of the community. This team works closely with experts and educators to bring relevant and empowering educational content to the members.

Events Team

Responsible for planning and organizing all events hosted by the Autonomy Project, the Events Team manages logistics, planning, ideas, coordination, and ensures that each event aligns with the project’s mission and values. This team plays a crucial role in bringing the community together and facilitating meaningful experiences.

  • Our events front end team is broken up into sub-teams:
    • Advocacy Events - Helping our community learn, grow, and advocate for themselves (crossover with Education Team)
    • Community - Low-cost or free social events that foster a sense of belonging and connection
    • Nerdy and Niche - Game nights, cosplay, special interest
    • Relationships and Sexuality - Events that pertain to kink, sex-positivity, or relationships
    • Art and Performance - Events that foster creativity and appreciation for expression

Finance Team

The Finance Team handles all financial aspects of the Autonomy Project, from budgeting and accounting to financial planning and reporting. This team ensures financial stability and compliance with laws and regulations, providing a solid foundation for all organizational activities.

Event Engine

The driving force of Events at The Autonomy Project - the Event Engine Team.

This team’s back end folks handle logistics and publishing of each months events to our websites, to Facebook and FetLife, and are often the communications hub between teams, when it is time to get events across the finish line.

This team’s front end folks are the fabulous smiling faces at the event itself. From set up, to making sure the event goes off without a hitch (and problem solving when it doesn’t), all the way to ensuring a sparkling clean tear down, these are the people physically running our events.

IT and Backend Team

Managing the digital infrastructure of the organization, the IT and Backend Team ensures that all technological systems function smoothly. This includes managing the website, internal communication tools, and data management systems, crucial for the efficient operation of the organization.

Graphics and Socials Team

Focused on promoting the organization and enhancing community engagement, this team manages all marketing and public relations efforts. They develop and execute marketing campaigns, manage social media platforms, and engage with media to increase the visibility and impact of the Autonomy Project.

Merch Team

This team is tasked with designing and selling merchandise, as well as developing diverse alternate fundraising initiatives to support the organization's activities. Their creative and strategic efforts help to raise funds that are vital for sustaining and expanding the project’s programs.

Volunteer Coordination Team

Recruiting, training, and managing volunteers, this team ensures that volunteers are effectively integrated into various teams and roles. They play a critical role in maintaining a robust volunteer base, which is essential for the operation of numerous programs and events at the Autonomy Project.

Does that sound like you? Take a look at our most needed roles and see if one speaks to you! If none do, don’t worry, we still need your awesomeness on other teams!

Team Coordinators

  • Team coordinators make up the bulk of the “behind the scenes” aspects of each area.
  • Coordinators will help pick up individual tasks and areas, allowing leads to oversee planning and strategy on a higher level. Teams may have additional people inside those teams, including special teams for specific events or projects, but always report to the Team Leads.
  • Coordinators may wear multiple hats as the teams come together, so it’s important that there is sufficient overlap in knowledge to pick up slack when team members aren’t available.
  • We utilize Notion and Slack primarily for our communication and coordination, but no knowledge is necessary to learn these platforms.

Time Commitments

‣

Team Leads, Co-Lead

  • Leads will commit to their roles for 6 month terms (but can opt to serve multiple terms).
  • Co-Leads are “Leads in training” that can help take over when necessary, and assist in strategy, planning, ideas, and execution.
  • New leads need to commit to 4 hours per week initially until Coordinator roles are filled and training and materials are created and organized in the knowledge base.
  • This should be short term (6 weeks) with an emphasis on getting their team working efficiently, communicating well with one another, etc.
  • Time commitment after this period will be 3-6 hours per week on average, which can vary depending on upcoming events or projects.
‣

Team Coordinators

  • Team Coordinators Time Expectations
    • Coordinators will commit to their roles for 3 month terms (but can opt to serve multiple terms).
    • Coordinators to commit 2-4 hours per week on average, which can vary depending on upcoming events or projects.
