Did you know we’re entirely volunteer-run? Yes, really.
One of the things that sets us apart is that the Autonomy Project is entirely volunteer run. No one gets paid here! This isn’t a bar or club putting on events for the financial benefit of one person. This is a collaborative labor of love by our community to create something that’s never been done before in Columbus.
- Everything we do is for us, by us.
- Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our community.
- We believe that everyone participates, no spectators.
- We believe that healing comes from the community.
- We believe that weird is wonderful.

Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. - Unknown

Join the command team!
Think what we’re doing is pretty rad (it is) and you want to get more involved? Come join the command team!
Learn more about the Command Team →
The command team is the group of amazing humans who make this organization run. Command team folks can be remote, in-person, or hybrid. Roles can be filled with as a little as a few hours a week, and not only will you be helping to create the magic from the inside, we look damn good on a resume.
Learn more about our unique culture of teamwork →
Many of our roles can be done completely remotely, and they only require you to be communicative (we use Slack) and enthusiastic about working in a team environment. We provide all the training and mentorship you might want.
Command Team Top Priorities
The command team ALWAYS needs new faces, skills, and talents! Our command team encompasses 8 (or more) different teams that do everything from Events to Marketing to Strategic Planning to Merch and Fundraising to our building.. and much more.
These are just a few of the most critical positions that we need help in, but know this isn’t an exhaustive list. If you don’t see something you love, apply anyway, because we always need more folks to give our current team breaks and provide more ideas!
Thank you for everything you do.
Our volunteer team is over 150 people and counting. Now you make one more!
We’re here to make a real, lasting impact on the world around us and we can’t do it alone.
