EXPECTATIONS
Story Actors aka Narrative Operatives
Story Actors are the living, breathing interface between guests and the world of Cybertopia.
This is a guest-facing, in-character role focused on interaction, atmosphere, and light improvisation. You are not a performer on stage. You are part of the environment.
If you’ve ever wanted to step inside a story instead of watching one, this role is for you.
No previous acting or roleplaying experience required, but if you do.. you’re gonna love this.
Cybertopia Quick Navigation
What will I be doing as a Story Actor?
As a Story Actor (NPC), you will:
- Portray an in-world character within Cybertopia
- Interact with guests in character
- Respond to guests dynamically using prompts, tone, and vibe rather than a strict script
- Support missions in rooms or roaming spaces
- Help guests feel immersed, welcomed, curious, or slightly unsettled (in a fun way)
Story Actors may be assigned to one of the following areas, with flexibility to rotate:
- Ripperdoc Room, Oracle & Faction Rooms
- Mission Areas, Roaming in-world interactions
- Guest Welcome Zone
Story Actor Shifts are 4 hours long and include breaks. 1st shift: 6-10pm. 2nd shift: 10pm-2am
What should I be comfortable with?
This role is best for volunteers who are comfortable with:
- Speaking to strangers
- Light improvisation and unscripted interaction
- Staying “in vibe”
- Mild to moderate sensory stimulation (music and lights, depending on the room. You can bring earplugs!)
- Reading social cues and adjusting tone
- Stepping back or tapping out when needed
You do not need acting experience. You do need self-awareness, boundaries, and the ability to interact kindly and creatively. This is not a spicy event, all interactions will be PG-13 at best.
If you prefer task-based volunteering with minimal guest interaction, we strongly recommend choosing a non-character role instead.

REQUIREMENTS
Virtual Briefing Call
Jan 18th - 7:00 - 8:30pm - Zoom
All approved volunteers must attend this Narrative Operatives Mission Briefing call.
We will cover story, missions, basic lore, various roles, and answer any questions you may have.
We'll go over the schedule, event flow, what to bring, and more.
If you cannot attend this, you must attend the in-person dry run below and communicate this to your Lead.
Costume Requirements
Cyberpunk / Futuristic / Dystopian
Costumes should be in a loosely interpreted Cyberpunk aesthetic.
What is that? Think futuristic + military + tech wear + black, neon, grays, greens, purples, blues. Light up anything and everything. Go nuts.
- Comfort and mobility are more important than perfection
- Wear comfortable footwear or a change of footwear
- Masks, props, or accessories must not interfere with consent or communication
- When in doubt, dress in black.
YES, you are allowed to go all out on your costuming. Have fun with this, that’s the whole point. Looking for ideas?
In-Person Dry Run
Jan 21th - 7:00 - 8:30pm - In-Person at AP
Highly recommended for Story Actors, but not required.
We will do a walkthrough of the rooms, mission steps, quest items, and more. You will be able to see exactly how the various rooms work, how the mission will work, where mission items are located, and more.
Role assignments will be given this night to those who attend first, so if you have a preferred place you want to NPC, it’s a good idea to attend this one.
You can also help with any last minute logistics/decorating/etc if that’s your thing. It’s kinda our thing.
READY TO GO, CHOOMS?
